This association was founded in June of Showa 25 as the voluntary organization “Tokyo Knitwear Wholesalers’ Association.” Subsequently, pursuant to the “Law Concerning the Organization of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Associations,” which came into effect in Showa 33, it was established in September of Showa 36 as the “Tokyo Knitwear Wholesalers’ Association” with the approval of the Minister of International Trade and Industry. In May Showa 48, we changed the term “Meriyasu”—which had been familiar throughout the industry’s 100-year history—to “Knit,” a globally recognized term with a fresh connotation. Anticipating new developments in the industry (shifting from innerwear to outerwear), we renamed the association the “Tokyo Knit Wholesale Association,” and Since then, we have continued our active operations as the core leading organization of the Tokyo metropolitan area’s knitwear wholesale industry, both in name and in practice.
